The following volunteer opportunities are for medical/nursing students or trained medical professionals only.

A CV and all relevant certificates must be submitted by email before a placement can be secured.

VTPEHC1

Volunteers with a sufficient level of Spanish are welcome for a minimum of 2 weeks.

This is a nice hospital for locals and tourists with 35 beds. There is a first aid department, a small laboratory and cardiology, gynaecology and oncology specialists. Volunteers may work as doctors or nurses here. The doctors here have a reasonable knowledge of English, but you may be asked to communicate with patients in Spanish. Besides treating patients, the hospital promotes hygiene and preventive healthcare among the population.

VTPEHC2

Volunteers with a sufficient level of Spanish are welcome for a minimum of 4 weeks.

A 7-year-old clinic, it was originally started by the Roman Catholic church to help individuals with little money to spend on medical assistance. It now has its own building but no beds, and no patients spend the night here. There is a paediatrician, a dentist, a physiotherapist, a lab assistant, a psychologist and a rehabilitation specialist. Nurses and physiotherapists in training are welcome. The clinic also prepares herbal medicine which is available through the clinic pharmacy.

VTPEHC3

Volunteers with a sufficient level of Spanish are welcome for a minimum of 4 weeks.

This project takes place at a psychiatric institution with about 70 patients. There are some who have experienced alcohol or drug addiction, long-term patients and visiting patients. A lot of medications are issued. The conditions in this clinic are very poor and there are many ways a volunteer can help, especially ones with experience in psychiatry. There are also sports activities, games and creative workshops for the patients.

Volunteers with a sufficient level of Spanish are welcome for a minimum of 4 weeks.

About 10 kilometers from Cusco, this clinic does not have any beds and patients do not spend the night here. It is small, and meant for the poorest people of Cusco. There are 4 general practioners, 3 dentists, 4 obstetricians, 2 psychologists, 2 lab technicians and several nurses. Medical and nursing students can shadow the doctors, helping and learning from them. Available shifts are from 8:00 to 14:00 and from 14:00 to 20:00.

VTPEHC5

Volunteers with a sufficient level of Spanish are welcome for a minimum of 4 weeks.

A clinic close to the airport where they offer consultations and emergency treatment. There are no beds, and no patients stay here overnight. Medical and nursing students can shadow the doctors, helping and learning from them. Available shifts are from 8:00 to 14:00 and from 14:00 to 20:00. Volunteers need to take a taxi to the project, which only costs 2 Nuevo Soles.
