VTPEST1

Volunteers with a sufficient level of Spanish are welcome for a minimum of 4 weeks.

A small shelter for homeless or abused children, it hosts about 30 children. They have been placed there due to a number of situations, such as extreme poverty, alcohol or drug abuse and domestic violence. Most go to school in the morning and some in the evening or the afternoon, or they spend their time in the streets, selling souvenirs, begging or collecting empty bottles. This project aims to keep them occupied and teach them some skills through creative workshops.

A steady flow of volunteers helps provide some structure to the children and provide them with some extra attention. There is sometimes a teacher present, who helps them with their homework. Volunteers here give workshops and assist in psychological evaluations, if they have relevant skills. The work takes place Monday to Friday, and volunteers can choose to come in the morning or the afternoon.
