 Sacred Valley

Cai Cay is a remote colonial village about an hour outside Cusco, near the sacred valley of the Incas. It is near the Urubamba river and is a hub for other villages nearby.

A quiet, typical Andean village, it is populated by about 250 indigenous people that live by ancient traditions and work to provide a better future for their children.

Real Peruvian rural culture can be seen here, as there are no tourists and one can see genuine native daily life unfold.

There is a school that serves the village and the surrounding area, and receives about 70 children every day. A space for the children to pursue after-school activities and education has been constructed, with two more in the process of being built to allow more space.

There the children can interact with each other and the volunteers that go there to expand their horizons and teach them valuable skills.

An organic garden has been planted from which food is harvested from and on which more work is needed. There is also a simple space for the volunteers to stay in while they help the local community. A bus ride to Cusco lasts only one hour and most volunteers return to the city for the weekend.
Even a short visit to Cai Cay offers an opportunity to see the real life of Peruvians, their daily lives, their problems and hopes for the future, as well as the good work that volunteers from all around the world do here year-round.
