Values

Increase in wealth, 1975-2005, depicted proportionally - University of Michigan / University of Sheffield

The global imbalance in wealth and limited access to opportunities for personal and collective advancement has led to political, social and economic instability. This has for a long time made poor countries poorer and rich countries richer.

Our goal is to create the circumstances for volunteers from industrialized, developed, "Western" countries of the global north to volunteer abroad and contribute to the well-being of as many people in the developing countries of the global south.

We believe that if humanity can find the resources to wage war, then humanity can and should certainly find the resources to help accelerate development. We want to give the opportunity to those individuals that wish to do that directly and in person by volunteering abroad, rather than leaving it to governments and large organizations.

Mission

We help people become responsible global citizens that will work for peace and understanding long after they have finished their travel2help.org volunteer abroad project.

We hold that there is more to travel than souvenirs and overpriced food.

We believe that responsible travellers spend their time, money and efforts living close to local people and their culture.

Goals

We hope that through volunteer service abroad and immersion in the local culture, a traveller will not be just another tourist, but someone who actively takes part in improving the welfare of the community they are in. Through the experience, we expect that the traveller will become a better person and citizen because of it. We also believe that a volunteer abroad can have fun and see some sites while doing this. We only partner with local organizations because we aim to provide the best support to our volunteers so that they have the safest experience they can have.

All our activities are based on respecting the local customs and conventions while addressing the needs of the communities that we and our volunteers serve. We only send volunteers where the community has demonstrated a need for them, and we do not impose ourselves on them. We strive to maintain the character of the local societies and ensure that they get the help they need.

Finally, we subscribe to the principles stated in the U.N. Millenium Declaration. We urge you to read them and do all you can to support any individual and/or organization that has the same goals.
